KVK Chamba’s Month-Long ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ Successfully Reaches 6,000 Farmers

Chamba : Bringing scientific farming directly to the grassroots, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Chamba successfully wrapped up its month-long nationwide 'Khet Bachao Abhiyan' on June 30.

The extensive outreach initiative established a direct connection with roughly 6,000 local farmers and agricultural stakeholders across Chamba district, equipping them with eco-friendly resource management tools.  The intensive campaign, driven by the central theme "Save Soil, Save Farming, Save Farmers," was implemented through a series of 51 strategic field camps.

The operations were coordinated jointly by KVK Chamba, the Department of Agriculture, and the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA).  Combating Imbalanced Chemical Use on Himalayan TerrainsTo smoothly navigate Chamba's complex and steep mountain topography, the administration deployed two multidisciplinary mobile teams.

These units traveled extensively across all seven developmental blocks of the district to address the rising dependence on synthetic inputs and offer local solutions.  "The overarching goal of this nationwide campaign is to minimize the excessive use of chemical fertilizers, preserve soil fertility, and restore natural soil health." -

Dr. Dharminder Kumar, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK ChambaDuring interactive training sessions, agricultural experts provided hands-on demonstrations on soil collection methods for precise laboratory testing.

Farmers received customized technical counseling on tracking nutrient deficiencies via Soil Health Cards, practicing Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and scaling up natural composting methods.

Furthermore, the mobile teams served as a single-window clearance hub to enroll remote growers into central welfare programs, including the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

Organizing officials expressed deep satisfaction with the high grassroots turnout, stating that transitioning toward climate-resilient practices will protect delicate mountain ecosystems while significantly trimming seasonal input overheads for marginal farmers.
