WHO Foundation and Novo Nordisk Partner to Combat Childhood Obesity in India
WHO Foundation and Novo Nordisk partner to provide financial aid and school health programs to tackle rising childhood obesity in India.
Vikrant Shrotriya, Managing Director of Novo Nordisk India, emphasized the urgency of the situation. "To secure the nation's long-term health, tackling childhood obesity is mandatory. Our collaboration is a shared commitment to equipping students with the knowledge and habits required for a healthy life," he stated.
With global trends showing more deaths linked to obesity than underweight issues, the focus has shifted toward early prevention. Anil Sony, CEO of the WHO Foundation, noted that schools are the primary link in this chain. The project will prioritize:
- Healthy Environments: Promoting physical activity and balanced nutrition within school premises.
- Early Detection: Screening for risks related to Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular health.
- Mental Health Support: Integrating psychological well-being into lifestyle education.
By targeting select districts, the partnership aims to create a scalable model for metabolic health, ensuring that even communities with limited medical access are empowered to prevent long-term chronic conditions.
