Army Traps 21-Year-Old Posing as Brigadier in UP

Shajanpur:  Flanked by hired bouncers dressed as elite NSG commandos and riding in a luxury SUV bearing official military insignia, 21-year-old Aryan Verma looked every bit the high-ranking Army officer he claimed to be.

However, his multi-month charade came to a dramatic halt on Friday when authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur Cantonment laid a perfect trap to expose the audacious imposter.Military authorities and local ex-servicemen had been tracking Verma since April following suspicious reports of a very young man moving around the district in a Brigadier’s ceremonial dress. Knowing a direct approach might cause him to flee, Station Headquarters Shahjahanpur, led by Administrative Commandant Colonel JS Jaglan, devised an ingenious sting operation.

Playing into Verma's craving for high-profile status, military personnel posed as civilians and invited him to deliver a motivational speech to young defense aspirants at the local Shaheed Museum.  Eager to hog the limelight, Verma walked straight into the snare. He arrived at the venue in a Tata Harrier adorned with a one-star plate and an Army headquarters flag.

He was accompanied by his "commandos" and a driver holding a forged Government of India ID. Upon his grand arrival, waiting Army personnel immediately surrounded and detained the group.Interrogations revealed that Verma is a Delhi-based student who had failed the NEET medical entrance exam multiple times.

To sustain his elaborate deception, he carried a fake Brigadier identity card bearing a forged seal of the Armed Forces Medical College dean, an air pistol, and an Army Medical Corps regimental cane. In an ironic twist, officials noted the youth suffered from knock knees—a physical condition that automatically disqualifies a candidate from military service.  Verma and his associates have been handed over to the local police, and a comprehensive investigation is underway to track how he procured the restricted military accoutrements.
