Magh Mela 2026 to be a 'Mini Kumbh': Safety and Cleanliness Top Govt Priority, says Dy CM Maurya
Dy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya outlines the ₹90Cr plan to host Magh Mela 2026 as a safe, clean 'Mini Kumbh'.
The Deputy CM instructed officials to streamline the arrival and departure of devotees, ensuring they can perform the sacred dip at the Sangam without any hurdles. He specifically highlighted the role of service-oriented organizations, directing that those with a history of contributing to the fair must not face any inconvenience.
Drawing a comparison with previous regimes, Maurya noted that the fair's budget has seen a massive surge under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath—increasing from a mere ₹30 crore during the Samajwadi Party era to over ₹90 crore today.
"Our government views the Magh Mela as a rehearsal for the grand Kumbh. We are focused on maintaining an uninterrupted and clean flow of the Ganges," Maurya stated.
The government also discussed significant infrastructure plans, including the construction of electric crematoriums stretching from Shringverpur Puramufti to Arail, to ensure environmental sustainability.
Reflecting on the 2019 Ardh Kumbh, Maurya recalled PM Narendra Modi’s gesture of washing the feet of sanitation workers, emphasizing that cleanliness, safety, and hospitality remain the pillars of the 2026 fair. The event saw participation from various political dignitaries and local MLAs, all pledging to make the upcoming Mela a historic success.
