Meteorological Department Issues Severe Rain Alerts Across Uttar Pradesh Cities Facing Heavy Waterlogging

Lucknow: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall alerts for vast swathes of Uttar Pradesh, warning of intensified monsoon activity, widespread waterlogging, and escalating flood risks along major river corridors over the coming days.  Continuous downpours across eastern and western districts have severely impacted daily life and urban movement.

In major urban centers including Lucknow, Bareilly, Rampur, Moradabad, and Prayagraj, municipal drainage systems experienced heavy overflow, leaving key arterial roads, underpasses, and residential colonies submerged under water. Commuters faced prolonged traffic gridlocks as police units enforced diversions around heavily flooded thoroughfares.

Hydro-meteorological monitoring indicates that persistent rainfall in upper catchment zones has caused water levels in primary rivers, including the Ganga, Yamuna, Sarayu, and Ghaghara, to rise steadily toward caution marks. Low-lying riverine settlements in districts such as Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, and Balrampur have been placed under active flood watch.

District administrations have instructed revenue officers and irrigation teams to monitor embankments round-the-clock and prepare emergency shelters in case forced evacuations become necessary.State disaster management authorities have deployed response contingents to vulnerable pockets and issued public safety advisories.

Citizens are urged to avoid navigating flooded streets, keep away from open electrical wiring, and minimize unnecessary travel during intense downpours. District magistrates in several heavily affected regions have authorized school closures and directed municipal bodies to deploy heavy-duty dewatering pumps to clear inundated public roads. Weather officials project active rainfall spells to persist across the state through late July.
