State Election Commission Declares Final Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Voter List
The State Election Commission publishes the final UP panchayat electoral rolls, locking the total electorate at 12.58 crore voters.
Lucknow : The State Election Commission (SEC) has officially released the highly anticipated final voter list for the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh. Following an extensive six-month intensive verification and screening process, the total number of registered voters across the state's rural local bodies has been locked at an unprecedented 12.58 crore (125,851,570) electors.
According to State Election Commissioner Raj Pratap Singh, the revision drive saw an aggressive cleanup of the electoral rolls. A massive 2.32 crore new voters were successfully added to the system, while more than 2.03 crore names—including duplicate entries, deceased individuals, and residents who had permanently shifted to urban areas—were systematically deleted by booth-level officers (BLOs).
This sweeping exercise resulted in a net addition of over 29 lakh new voters compared to the previous maternal draft list. District-wise trends revealed that Ballia recorded the highest surge in political participation, adding 160,037 new voters to its register.
Significant increases were also observed across the Purvanchal and Terai belts, including Lakhimpur Kheri, Devarie, and Siddharthnagar. Conversely, strict administrative screening led to voter declines in seven districts, with Ghazipur registering the highest clean-up drop of 94,757 invalid entries, followed closely by Mainpuri and Azamgarh. In an absolute technology first, the SEC announced it will deploy an advanced Facial Registration System (FRS) mobile application during the upcoming polling cycle to completely eradicate duplicate voting.
This app captures and matches voter ID photos in real time. Additionally, the commission has issued unique State Voter Numbers (SVN) to every citizen on the roll. While the electoral boundaries are now finalized, the polling dates will be formally notified immediately after the state government completes the ongoing backward classes seat reservation exercise.
