Yogi Government To Provide Free Housing And Healthcare For Survivors
The Uttar Pradesh government launches a major initiative offering permanent housing and comprehensive health insurance to vulnerable women survivors
Lucknow : In a major policy decision aimed at strengthening the socio-economic safety net for vulnerable women, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced plans to extend comprehensive housing and healthcare benefits to survivors of triple talaq and acid attacks. This targeted rehabilitation initiative also intends to bring destitute women under its welfare umbrella to ensure they can lead independent and dignified lives.
Following strict instructions from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state’s Women Welfare Department has officially been designated as the nodal agency to implement the directive. The department has aggressively initiated a comprehensive, district-wide data collection drive to compile verified registries of eligible women.
This foundational database will ensure that zero procedural roadblocks or informational gaps prevent survivors from accessing state support. Under the dual-pronged empowerment framework, selected beneficiaries who lack permanent residences will be immediately prioritized for pucka house allotments. The construction will be sponsored through a convergent deployment of the central Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and the state-backed Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana.
Simultaneously, the state will tackle long-term medical and financial insecurity by issuing zero-cost health cards. Survivors and their families will be seamlessly linked to the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana alongside the state's Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana. This medical integration is highly critical for acid attack survivors, who routinely require multi-stage reconstructive surgeries, long-term specialized burn treatment, and psychological rehabilitation.
State officials emphasized that while previous legislative interventions successfully established legal protections, this institutional push focuses heavily on practical, post-crisis financial insulation. A formalized Government Order (GO) detailing specific operational guidelines and localized execution timelines is currently being drafted at the highest administrative levels and will be implemented across all seventy-five districts immediately upon finalization.
