Rohit Sharma Declared Fully Fit For Afghanistan ODI Series Opener

Bengaluru: Veteran Indian batsman Rohit Sharma has been declared completely fit by the medical team at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE). The clean bill of health guarantees his participation in the opening fixture of the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Afghanistan.

The senior batsman had arrived at the Bengaluru-based training facility earlier this week to undergo a mandatory and rigorous physical evaluation. Rohit’s inclusion in the white-ball squad was previously kept conditional after he sustained a troubling hamstring niggle during the late stages of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. The injury had limited his mobility, forcing him to feature predominantly as an Impact Player for the Mumbai Indians.

BCCI sources confirmed that Rohit successfully cleared all required physical benchmarks, including high-intensity running drills and localized strength assessments. The training staff monitored his explosive movements and lateral agility closely to ensure there was no lingering vulnerability in his hamstring. Having exhibited zero discomfort during extensive batting sessions under lights, the veteran star is slated to travel directly to Dharamsala to link up with the national squad on June 11.

His availability is a significant boost for India, especially since the top-order is missing ace batter Virat Kohli, who was recently ruled out for six weeks due to a severe hamstring tear. Rohit’s experienced presence at the top of the order will provide much-needed structural balance alongside younger prospects like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.

The three-match bilateral rubber is scheduled to commence on June 13 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, followed by subsequent matches in Lucknow and Chennai. The Indian team heads into the white-ball leg with high confidence after securing a historic innings win in the recently concluded one-off Test.
