Bareilly : The badminton courts of Bareilly witnessed a masterclass in agility and precision as Prayagraj’s own Yasharth Ojha clinched the championship title at the 2nd Rai Bahadur Lala Shiv Prasad Memorial UP State Master (Veteran) Badminton Competition.
Competing in the 35+ age category, Ojha demonstrated exceptional stamina and tactical prowess throughout the three-day tournament, which concluded on January 11. His path to the podium was marked by a hard-fought semi-final victory against Kanpur’s Ravi Pratap Singh. After a neck-and-neck opening set, Ojha dominated the subsequent rounds, finishing with a scoreline of 22-20, 21-06, 21-13.
In the final showdown, Ojha faced a formidable opponent in Akhilesh Yadav of the Ghaziabad Police team. However, the Prayagraj shuttler remained unfazed, securing a straight-set victory of 21-17, 21-06 to lift the trophy.
The news of his triumph was shared by his uncle, Sheel Kumar Ojha, who serves as the General Secretary of the Prayagraj Basketball Association. This victory not only adds a prestigious feather to Yasharth’s cap but also highlights the thriving veteran sports culture in Uttar Pradesh.
