Lucknow: In a significant initiative for World Heart Day, Medanta Super Specialty Hospital conducted a workshop on heart health and CPR, motivating school students to become Heart Ambassadors. The event, themed "Use Your Heart," aimed to equip youth with essential CPR training and heart health education, enabling them to respond effectively in emergencies.

With heart disease being a leading cause of mortality in Uttar Pradesh, awareness of heart attack symptoms remains crucial. Research indicates that 15% to 20% of heart attack patients are under 40 years old. Medanta's workshop addressed the pressing need for increased awareness in rural and semi-urban areas, where economic barriers and inadequate heart care facilities contribute to delayed hospital visits.

Dr. R.K. Saran, head of cardiology at Medanta, emphasized the importance of timely intervention during cardiac events. The workshop trained students in CPR techniques, underlining that the first 90 minutes post-heart attack are vital for survival. After completing the training, students were appointed as Heart Ambassadors, responsible for raising awareness about heart health in their schools and communities.

The event featured practical CPR training, with experts highlighting the significance of immediate action during cardiac emergencies. Dr. Lokendra Gupta, an emergency care specialist, stressed that such initiatives empower communities to respond effectively before professional medical help arrives.

Medanta's ongoing mission includes addressing rising heart disease trends through education, early detection, and timely intervention. Factors like poor diet, obesity, lack of physical activity, and rising stress levels contribute to increasing cases of heart disease. Additionally, awareness and access to healthcare services are crucial for vulnerable populations, especially postmenopausal women, who experience a higher incidence of heart disease.
