Local Poll Results Show Public Has Lost Faith In Government: Jai Ram Thakur

Shimla : Following the recently concluded urban local body and municipal elections across the state, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched a scathing attack on the ruling dispensation. Thakur asserted that the electoral outcome is a clear indicator that the general public has completely lost faith in the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently secured critical victories in key urban local bodies, including wresting control of the Solan Municipal Corporation, alongside sweeping performances in several other key regions.

Defeat of Political Tactics and Misuse of Power
Issuing a formal statement from Shimla, the veteran BJP leader stated that the election results represent a triumph of democracy and public trust over political maneuvering. Thakur alleged that the state government made exhaustive attempts to influence democratic institutions and put immense pressure on elected councillors using administrative machinery.

"The Sukhu government tried every tactic to subvert the democratic mandate, but all such efforts collapsed before the collective wisdom of the elected representatives and the public." - Jai Ram Thakur, Leader of the Opposition

Thakur further added that the anti-people policies, stalling of development projects, and unfulfilled electoral promises of the ruling party created widespread disillusionment among both urban and rural voters. He emphasized that the civic poll mandate has set the political momentum in motion ahead of the 2027 Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections.

Congratulating the newly elected representatives, the LoP expressed confidence that the BJP-aligned local bodies will prioritize absolute transparency, public accountability, and uniform development across all wards.
