Dehra Police Seize Heavy Excavator Machinery And Four Tippers In Midnight Illegal Mining Operation

Dharamshala : In a major crackdown against illegal riverbed extraction, police authorities in Himachal Pradesh’s Dehra district impounded a heavy JCB excavator and four tipper trucks during a targeted midnight operation along the Beas river basin.  

The raid was executed during the intervening night in the Chamukha stretch of the Beas River, falling under the jurisdiction of the Rakkar Police Station. Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding covert midnight excavation, a special enforcement team constituted by Dehra Superintendent of Police (SP) Sandeep Dhawal swooped down on the site under the direct supervision of senior departmental officers. 

Upon reaching the riverbank, law enforcement personnel caught the operators engaged in unauthorized sand and gravel extraction. The police team immediately impounded the JCB machine along with four heavy tipper trucks that were being loaded with extracted riverbed minerals. All involved heavy vehicles were issued challans and seized under relevant provisions of the Mining Act and the Motor Vehicles Act.  

District police officials reiterated their zero-tolerance stance against the mining mafia operating illegally along vulnerable riverbeds and tributaries across the region. Unregulated extraction along the Beas River poses severe ecological threats, accelerating riverbank erosion, altering natural water channels, and compromising structural safety of nearby bridges during peak monsoon discharges.  

Superintendent of Police Sandeep Dhawal stated that intensive midnight patrolling and strategic check-posts will continue across river stretches in Dehra. Local authorities have appealed to residents to notify emergency police numbers about suspicious heavy machinery movements operating during non-permitted night hours.
