Sukhu Lays Stone For Rs 35 Crore Hamirpur Medical Block

Hamirpur :  Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu laid the foundation stone for an ultra-modern critical care block at the new campus of Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College in Jol Sapper.

The state-of-the-art facility will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 35 crore.  Following the ceremony, the Chief Minister inspected the newly built academic and hospital blocks alongside other ongoing construction on the campus. He directed officials from the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and the state Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure high-quality construction and strict adherence to timelines.

He explicitly instructed them to expedite the handover process so that the medical college administration can finish shifting various departments to the new Jol Sapper facility. Operation of these vital healthcare departments is scheduled to begin in the first week of July.  

Highlighting the state's broader healthcare vision, Chief Minister Sukhu announced an allocation of Rs 150 crore dedicated to the complete modernization of laboratories across all government medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh. This project will replace decades-old equipment at premier institutions—including the Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda—with the latest medical technologies. 

To address long-standing staffing issues and improve state healthcare delivery, the Chief Minister emphasized that a large-scale recruitment drive is underway for doctors, professors, nurses, and paramedical staff. Principal Dr. Ramesh Bharti briefed the Chief Minister on the site's progress. Several cabinet ministers and local legislators also attended the event.
