Dr. P.K. Pal’s Lifesaving Effort for Clubfoot Children in Raebareli

Raebareli :In a remarkable example of medical compassion and social responsibility, Dr. P.K. Pal, the leading orthopedic surgeon at the Raebareli District Hospital, has been silently transforming the lives of children born with clubfoot. His initiative has given hundreds of children not only the ability to walk but also the confidence to step forward into a brighter future.

Clubfoot, or congenital talipes equinovarus, is a birth defect where a child's feet are turned inward, making walking painful or impossible if left untreated. With early diagnosis and structured treatment, complete correction is achievable.

At the Raebareli District Hospital (Rana Beni Madhav Campus), a dedicated Clubfoot Clinic is conducted every Wednesday, jointly operated under the National Child Health Program and Anushka Foundation. The treatment follows the globally recognized Ponseti Method, a three-phase approach to correct clubfoot without extensive surgery:

Casting Phase – Gentle manipulation and plaster casting to align the foot.

Tenotomy Phase – A minor surgical procedure to release tight tendons.

Bracing Phase – Children are provided with special boots and bars for up to five years to prevent relapse.

Currently, around 330 children are undergoing treatment through this clinic. Dr. P.K. Pal, with skilled assistance from Shivankant Maurya, carries out the casting procedures. Counseling and emotional support for parents is led by Dileep Dhar Dubey from Anushka Foundation, ensuring families stay committed to the treatment timeline.

On July 10, 2025, Dr. P.K. Pal successfully performed free Tenotomy surgeries on six children, restoring hope and mobility in their young lives. Since April 1, 2025, he has completed 17 Tenotomy procedures, all free of charge—each one a testament to his commitment to medical equity.

This consistent and focused effort has not only impacted individual families but is building a movement of awareness and accessibility for congenital orthopedic issues in underserved communities.

In a country where rural healthcare often struggles with accessibility and resources, Dr. Pal's mission is nothing short of inspiring. His hands are not just healing bones; they are building futures—one corrected footstep at a time.
