ApolloMedics Lucknow Revolutionizes Cancer Care with Scarless Robotic Surgeries
ApolloMedics Lucknow pioneers scarless robotic surgeries for oral and breast cancer, offering faster recovery and improved cosmetic outcomes.

Lucknow : In a path-breaking development for cancer treatment in North India, #ApolloMedics Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow has performed the region’s first nipple-sparing robotic breast surgery and RIA-MIND-based robotic oral cancer surgery, redefining precision care, recovery time, and cosmetic outcomes for cancer patients.
These surgeries were previously only available in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Bengaluru. With this achievement, ApolloMedics has brought high-end oncology treatment closer to patients from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and neighboring states.
Dr. Mayank Somani, MD & CEO of ApolloMedics, shared, “Our goal is not just to treat cancer but to ensure the post-surgery life of patients is emotionally and physically better. These advanced surgeries require international-level infrastructure and highly skilled experts — both of which we now provide here in Lucknow.”
🔹 North India’s First Nipple-Sparing Robotic Mastectomy
Dr. Satish K. Anandan, Consultant – Surgical Oncology, led the robotic breast cancer surgery on a 60-year-old woman from Lucknow suffering from cancer in both breasts. The surgical approach preserved both the nipple and outer breast skin using tiny incisions under the armpit.
“In traditional mastectomies, the entire breast including nipple and skin is removed, often causing severe emotional trauma. With robotic surgery, we achieved internal removal of cancerous tissues while preserving the natural appearance of the chest,” said Dr. Anandan, coining the term ‘Cure with Cosmetics’ for the procedure.
The surgery lasted approximately six hours. The patient was not shifted to ICU, experienced minimal pain, and was discharged in just three days – an unheard-of recovery speed for such a complex procedure in the region.
🔹 RIA-MIND for Scarless Oral Cancer Surgery
The hospital also successfully executed North India’s first RIA-MIND (Robotic Infraclavicular Approach for Minimally Invasive Neck Dissection) surgery for oral cancer under the expertise of Dr. Abhimanyu Kadapathri, Consultant – Head and Neck Surgical Oncology.
“Traditional oral cancer surgeries require large neck incisions leading to scars and longer healing. Using RIA-MIND, we made small incisions below the collarbone, inserted robotic instruments, and removed lymph nodes from inside — leaving the face and neck untouched,” said Dr. Kadapathri. The surgery took four hours and offered exceptional cosmetic and surgical precision.
🔹 Advanced Colorectal Robotic Procedures
Dr. Harshit Srivastava, Consultant – Surgical Oncology, performed robotic and laparoscopic surgeries on two colorectal cancer patients. “While laparoscopy uses manual control, robotic arms offer unmatched precision, especially in complex pelvic regions,” he explained.
Both patients experienced less bleeding, less post-op pain, and quicker recoveries, reflecting the growing role of robotics in gastrointestinal oncology.
These robotic breakthroughs at ApolloMedics are not just technological feats — they symbolize hope, dignity, and quality of life for cancer patients across India’s heartland. The hospital has now established itself as a regional leader in advanced, patient-friendly cancer care, ensuring global standards of treatment are accessible without the need to travel to distant cities.
