Nano Fertilizers to Replace Granular Urea and DAP: Commissioner Emphasizes Soil Health

(Report by Zainul Abdin)

Prayagraj:  In a strong push toward sustainable agriculture, Devmani Mishra, Additional Commissioner and Deputy Registrar of Cooperatives, Lucknow, along with Akhilesh Kumar Singh, Joint Director, visited the IFFCO Kisan Seva Kendra at Ghiyanagar, Phulpur, Prayagraj. The officials reviewed the distribution system of fertilizers and interacted directly with the farmers to raise awareness about the benefits of nano fertilizers.

During the inspection, the Additional Commissioner emphasized that continuous use of conventional granular fertilizers like urea and DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) is degrading the quality of soil. “Farmers need to be cautious,” Mishra advised, “as overuse of these fertilizers not only harms the soil structure but also reduces long-term fertility and productivity.”

He encouraged farmers to gradually switch to nano fertilizers, which are more efficient, require lower quantities, and are environmentally friendly. “Nano fertilizers ensure better nutrient absorption with minimal wastage,” he added.

The farmers expressed curiosity and shared their experiences with fertilizer usage. Many of them were unaware of the emerging alternatives like nano urea. The officials responded by explaining how nano technology-based inputs are proving to be a game changer in modern agriculture.

Post the visit, both Devmani Mishra and Akhilesh Kumar Singh took part in a large-scale tree plantation drive organized at KORDET, Phulpur. Symbolically, each planted one tree to signify their commitment to ecological preservation and sustainable farming.

The tree plantation drive was also attended by key officials, including K.K. Singh (District Agriculture Officer, Prayagraj), Pawan Vishwakarma (Deputy Agriculture Director), Vivek Yadav (Assistant Registrar), Dr. D.K. Singh (Principal of KORDET), Amit Singh (Area Officer, Prayagraj), and Sumit Tewatia along with several KORDET staff members.

This integrated initiative served a dual purpose – promoting green practices through tree planting and creating awareness among farmers about soil health and modern fertilization techniques.

As agriculture continues to face the twin challenges of declining soil fertility and rising input costs, the shift towards nano fertilizers is expected to bring about a positive transformation. By encouraging eco-conscious farming techniques, authorities like Mishra and Singh are laying the foundation for a more resilient and productive rural economy.

Their visit and interaction with the grassroots highlight the administration’s proactive approach in ensuring that scientific advances reach even the remotest farming communities of Uttar Pradesh.
