Postings In CBSE Government Schools To Be Merit-Based: Himachal Education Minister

Shimla : Taking a firm stance on administrative transparency, Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur announced that the postings of teachers and principals in government schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be handled strictly on the basis of merit.  

The minister clarified that the state government is eliminating recommendations or external influences from the posting matrix to maintain high educational standards and avoid any future legal complications regarding sub-cadre appointments

.Chief Minister’s Final Nod Awaited to Initiate TransfersThe Education Department recently conducted a mandatory qualifying examination to select eligible in-service teachers and principals for these premium CBSE institutions. Although nearly 6,000 education professionals successfully cleared the screening test, their official postings were delayed due to administrative challenges involved in relocating the staff currently stationed at those schools.

 "A comprehensive list of 150 principals has already been prepared, and roughly 95 percent of them have successfully locked in their preferred school choices." - Rohit Thakur, Education MinisterAddressing media representatives at the State Secretariat, Thakur stated that a high-level review meeting was successfully concluded on Wednesday, and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will be briefed on the final operational framework. If deemed necessary, the structural proposal will be presented before the State Cabinet for final approval.  

The minister also highlighted that the state’s recent school amalgamation strategy is yielding positive outcomes, recording a fresh enrollment of nearly 16,000 students across government institutions. Thakur reinforced that merit-based staffing is the next crucial step toward cementing public trust in state-run CBSE institutions.
