Governor Kavinder Gupta Inspects Bhakra Dam

Bilaspur : Governor Kavinder Gupta conducted a high-level inspection of the iconic Bhakra Dam, reviewing its vital power generation infrastructure and overall operational health. Located across the Sutlej River in the Bilaspur district, the massive structure remains a cornerstone of India’s engineering legacy and a primary energy lifeline for northern India.

During his visit, the Governor received detailed briefings on the reservoir's current water storage levels, structural maintenance protocols, and active generation capacity. Highlighting its regional significance, officials emphasized the dam’s continuous role in distributing critical irrigation water, clean drinking reserves, and hydroelectric power to millions across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh.

Accompanied by senior officials, the Governor went inside the core structure to inspect the turbines and internal power stations firsthand. He praised the technicians and engineering teams for maintaining seamless, uninterrupted operations under heavy utility demands.

Addressing the onsite management teams, Sh. Gupta framed the landmark facility as a lasting symbol of modern India’s industrial vision. However, he balanced his praise with a strong warning regarding long-term resource security.

"Bhakra Dam continues to drive both the agricultural and industrial sectors of multiple states," Governor Gupta noted. "But as the world navigates an increasingly complex global energy crisis, our focus must shift toward strict water conservation and highly disciplined resource management."

The Governor concluded his visit by commending the Bhakra Management Board (BMB) for its professional upkeep of the massive asset. Earlier upon his arrival, he was officially received by Bhakra Dam Chief Engineer CP Singh alongside key representatives from the board and Lok Bhavan, marking a successful evaluation of the region's primary power nexus.
