Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya Celebrates 139 Years of UP’s Legislative Legacy in Prayagraj

Prayagraj : Marking a significant chapter in India’s parliamentary history, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya presided over the 'Gaurav Bodh' program at Chandrashekhar Azad Park on Wednesday. The event was organized to commemorate the eve of the 139th anniversary of the first-ever meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, which took place on January 8, 1887.

Honoring the Past, Empowering the Future The Deputy CM inaugurated the ceremony at the Public Library by lighting the traditional lamp. Highlighting the historical weight of the venue, he recalled that the first legislative meeting consisted of only nine members—five British and four Indians. "Prayagraj has been the epicenter of freedom, justice, and education. We must preserve this glory while building a 'Viksit Bharat'," Maurya stated.

In a gesture of governance at the doorstep, the Deputy CM distributed:

Keys to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana beneficiaries.

Financial checks via the District Mission Management Unit.

Educational kits to school children and sponsorship certificates.

Infrastructure and Vision for 2027 Focusing on the city's future, Maurya announced that the "double-engine government" is prioritizing massive infrastructure projects. This includes a new 6-lane bridge, proposed additional bridges over the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, and the ongoing construction of the Ring Road. He urged local representatives to draft a comprehensive action plan for the 150th-anniversary milestone to further elevate Prayagraj’s global standing.

A Commitment to Inclusive Growth Reiterating the mantra of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas," the Deputy CM emphasized that welfare schemes like Ayushman cards, free ration, and gas connections are reaching every eligible citizen without discrimination.

The event saw a high-profile gathering, including MP Praveen Patel, Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani, and several MLAs, all paying homage to the soil that once nurtured revolutionaries like Chandrashekhar Azad and thinkers like Rishi Bhardwaj.
