SRINAGAR- Kashmir’s chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was placed under house arrest today, effectively barring him from leading congregational Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar. His office confirmed that security forces restricted his movement since early morning hours.
The detention also forced the cancellation of the Mirwaiz Foundation's annual calendar launch. This move comes shortly after Farooq removed his 'Hurriyat Chairman' title from social media, citing official pressure. Regional leaders have termed these recurring restrictions as unjust.
