AHMEDABAD-In a major crackdown on bureaucracy, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Rajendrakumar Patel, a 2015-batch IAS officer and former Surendranagar Collector. The arrest is linked to a massive money laundering probe involving alleged bribes for Change of Land Use (CLU) permissions.
The probe intensified after the ED seized ₹67.5 lakh cash from a deputy mamlatdar's residence last week. Investigations revealed a systematic extortion network where bribes were allegedly calculated per square metre, leading to the Gujarat government transferring Patel shortly before his arrest today.
