Bhutan’s Elite Shooters to Hone Skills at Jitu Rai Academy


SILIGURI: Strengthening the bonds of sports diplomacy under India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, a contingent of 13 elite shooters from Bhutan has arrived in Siliguri, West Bengal. They are set to undergo an intensive two-week High-Performance Training Camp from January 7 to January 20, 2026.

Technical Excellence and International Exposure The Bhutan Shooting Federation (BSF) confirmed that the squad, comprising five rifle shooters and eight pistol shooters, along with two coaches, has safely reached the Jitu Rai Shooting Academy. This camp is specifically designed to sharpen technical skills, enhance competition readiness, and provide crucial international exposure to Bhutanese athletes. Such initiatives are seen as a cornerstone for Bhutan's aspiration to excel in global shooting arenas.

A Pillar of Indo-Bhutan Partnership The training program is funded through the Indo-Bhutan Partnership Program, highlighting the deep-rooted cooperation between the two nations in youth development and sports. The Indian Embassy in Bhutan expressed its enthusiasm on 'X' (formerly Twitter), stating: "Happy to support the Bhutanese National Shooters. This camp reflects our robust collaboration in high-performance training and sports partnership."

Strategic Cooperation Beyond Borders Beyond sports, India continues to support its neighbors in vital sectors like infrastructure, energy, and health. The Bhutan Shooting Federation extended its heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India for its consistent support in developing high-performance athletes. The warm reception by the academy staff in Siliguri marks the beginning of a transformative journey for these young shooters, aiming to hit the bullseye on the world stage.
