Kanpur:Following directives from the Allahabad High Court, a delegation of advocates, led by Pandit Ravindra Sharma, former President of the Lawyers Association, met with the Police Commissioner to ensure adherence to rules for the upcoming bar elections. The High Court, while hearing a petition by Amit Kumar and others, had issued instructions banning the use of hoardings, posters, and banners, and also prohibited events and gatherings in hotels, guest houses, and party lawns. Despite these restrictions, Sharma expressed disappointment, noting that Kanpur courts and the city were filled with such promotional materials, and banquets continued to be organized, raising concerns about external interference.

Sharma further emphasized that these activities not only violate High Court directives but also indicate the misuse of funds, which can discourage ordinary advocates from contesting the elections. He urged the Police Commissioner to take swift action, remove unauthorized banners, and enforce a ban on daily gatherings, ensuring that the election process remains fair and transparent. Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Harish Chander assured the delegation that immediate action would be taken to comply with the court's orders, maintaining the dignity of the legal community.
