Noida Police Seize Illegal Codeine Cough Syrup Worth Lakhs Two Arrested

Nodia : major crackdown on the illicit prescription drug trade, the Noida police intercepted a massive smuggling attempt, seizing a large consignment of prohibited codeine-based cough syrup valued at approximately 7.25 lakh rupees. , officers intercepted a suspicious transport vehicle. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of multiple boxes packed with hundreds of bottles of codeine-laced cough syrup. The occupants failed to produce any valid drug licenses, medical invoices, or transport permits required for the commercial carriage of highly regulated formulations.

The two apprehended individuals were taken into custody immediately. During initial interrogation, the accused confessed that they had procured the stock illegally from wholesale medical distribution loopholes and intended to supply the bottles to local peddlers and drug addicts across Noida and Greater Noida at highly inflated black-market rates.

Codeine-based syrups, while classified as therapeutic medication, are highly abused by addicts as a cheap substitute for core narcotics.  The entire consignment, along with the transport vehicle, was officially confiscated under legal procedures. An FIR has been registered against the duo under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.A senior police official stated that further investigations are rapidly underway to trace the manufacturing source of the illegal drugs and dismantle the broader supply syndicate. "We are mapping their financial transactions to uncover the kingpins orchestrating this prescription drug racket," the official added.
