LUCKNOW-The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has introduced draft guidelines for a Battery Pack Aadhaar Number (BPAN). This 21-character unique digital identity aims to ensure end-to-end traceability, enabling the government to track electric vehicle batteries from production to recycling.

Under the new framework, battery producers must upload dynamic health data to a central portal. This initiative targets the circular economy by curbing counterfeit products and supporting efficient lithium-ion battery recycling, which accounts for 90% of India's current battery demand.
