Himachal Weather Update: Heatwave Alert in 3 Districts; Rain and Snow Predicted for Higher Altitudes
Himachal Pradesh faces a dual weather pattern with heatwave alerts for three districts and rain/snow forecasts for higher altitudes
Shimla: While tourists are flocking to the hills to escape the scorching plains, Himachal Pradesh itself is experiencing contrasting weather conditions. While some parts experienced light showers in the last 24 hours, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heatwaves in three specific districts, alongside forecasting light rain and snow in the higher reaches.
Heatwave Warning Issued for Plain and Low-Hill Districts
The intense summer heat is now gripping parts of Himachal Pradesh. According to the weather department, isolated pockets in Una, Bilaspur, and Solan are highly likely to experience heatwave conditions.
Authorities have advised residents and tourists to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours unless absolutely necessary. If outdoor travel is unavoidable, using umbrellas or wearing head coverings is strongly recommended.
Rain and Snowfall Forecast for Higher Reaches
While the plains and low-altitude areas will remain dry, relief is on the horizon for the upper segments. Light rain and snowfall are expected in isolated high-altitude areas of:
- Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Shimla
- Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti
The weather department has predicted a broader spell of light to moderate rain and snowfall across several locations in the state between June 11 and June 14.
Temperature Fluctuations
On Monday, Kukumseri and Keylong recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 5.3°C, while Una blazed as the hottest spot in the state at 41°C.
Temperature Outlook: Over the next 2–3 days, minimum temperatures across the state are expected to rise by 2–4°C, and maximum temperatures could shoot up by 3–5°C. However, a cooling trend will follow, bringing a temperature drop of 3–6°C shortly after.
