Google Commits $15B for Gigawatt-Scale AI Hub in Vizag with Airtel and Adani
Google, Nxtra by Airtel, and AdaniConneX break ground on a $15B gigawatt-scale AI Hub in Visakhapatnam for Viksit Bharat.
Lucknow : In a historic move toward making India a global tech superpower, Google broke ground today on its massive "India AI Hub" in Visakhapatnam. This landmark project, the largest of its kind in India, is being powered through a strategic partnership with Nxtra by Airtel and AdaniConneX, setting a new benchmark for gigawatt-scale digital infrastructure.
A Tri-Power Infrastructure Marvel
The hub is a cornerstone of Google’s ambitious $15 billion investment blueprint for India (2026–2030). The project will feature three massive data center campuses. Nxtra by Airtel is spearheading the technical backbone, utilizing its pan-India ultra-low-latency fiber and next-gen cable landing stations, while AdaniConneX brings its massive scale to ensure the facility reaches nearly 1 GW of capacity.
"India’s AI moment will be defined by infrastructure," noted Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Group, highlighting that affordable, clean energy will make high-level intelligence accessible to all.
Visionary Leadership for a Digital Future
The ceremony saw a high-profile gathering, including Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and AP Chief Minister Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Minister Vaishnaw praised the hub as a reflection of PM Modi’s "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) vision.
CM Chandrababu Naidu emphasized that Vizag is becoming a premier global investment destination, promising high-value opportunities for local youth and startups.
Gopal Vittal (Bharti Airtel) reaffirmed that the hub would ensure India sets the pace for sustainable global innovation.
Beyond Silicon: Community and Sustainability
The project isn't just about servers; it's about social impact. Google and its partners unveiled several community initiatives:
- Water & Maritime: Support for watershed management and GPS/digital training for 1,000+ fisherfolk.
- Empowerment: The NARI Shakti program aiming to train 10,000+ women entrepreneurs.
- Skill Development: The STAR program to prepare over 1,000 skilled workers for the AI workforce.
With the "America-India Connect" fiber initiative and a commitment to green power, the Vizag AI Hub is poised to become the beating heart of India's AI-native future.
