Lucknow: #ChiefSecretary Shri Manoj Kumar Singh participated in the 'Brain Stem Death Declaration: Way to Argument Diseased Donation' seminar organized by State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) and Department of Hospital Administration, SGPGIMS at HG Khurana Auditorium on the occasion of Indian Organ Donation Day.

In his address, the Chief Secretary said that organ donation can give a second chance to patients suffering from serious diseases. Public awareness about the importance of organ donation has to be increased. Initiatives to further improve the organ transplant rate have to be given priority. He will soon hold a meeting with all government stakeholder departments to give impetus to this program.

He shared his experiences about other such priorities of the government. Distributed prizes to the winners of the reel and slogan competition to create awareness about organ donation. He appreciated the efforts being made by the State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) led by Dr. Rajesh Harshvardhan and the transplant program being run at SGPGIMS under the leadership of Dr. RK Dhiman, Dr. Narayan Prasad and Dr. MS Anadi.

Principal Secretary Health & Medical Education Shri Parth Sarthi Sen Sharma discussed the ongoing initiatives and future strategies to enhance the organ donation scenario in the State.

SGPGIMS Director Prof. RK Dhiman described organ donation as the ultimate gift of life and explained how it can transform lives, providing a second chance to patients suffering from end-stage organ failure. He emphasized that organ donation should be seen as a “gift of life” and encouraged more people to consider becoming organ donors.

IG ATS Shri Neelabhja Chaudhary spoke on the role of police officers in organ donation and underlined their important role in supporting the donor families and ensuring smooth organ procurement process. He highlighted the need for training police officials to handle organ donation cases sensitively and efficiently.
The occasion marked the culmination of a week-long series of seminars organised by six medical colleges of Uttar Pradesh and transplant coordinators from across the state aimed at promoting the culture of organ donation.
The seminar is a landmark event aimed at providing comprehensive knowledge and training to medical professionals and transplant coordinators of six medical colleges of Uttar Pradesh. It was aimed at enhancing organ donation infrastructure, standardising procedures for organ procurement, preservation and allocation and expanding the network of organ procurement centres across the state to 57 centres.
These centres will facilitate efficient procurement, preservation and allocation of organs from deceased donors, thereby improving the availability of organs. The seminar provided comprehensive training to medical professionals and transplant coordinators on logistics management, donor identification protocols and transplant techniques. It also focused on enhancing and standardising brain stem death committees in the participating colleges, which is important for correct identification of donors.
Subject experts from various medical institutions also addressed the seminar on the occasion.
On this occasion, Secretary Medical Education Mrs. Aparna U, Joint Director of State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization Prof. R. Harshvardhan, Executive Registrar of SGPGIMS Lt. Col. Varun Bajpai, Head of Department of Urology Prof. M.S. Ansari, Head of Department of Nephrology Prof. Narayan Prasad along with more than 200 representatives were present.
