Jaishankar Prasad's famous play Dhruvaswamini successfully staged

New Delhi. India's timeless playwright Jaishankar Prasad's famous play Dhruvaswamini was successfully staged in Delhi's famous auditorium Shriram Center under the banner of Babu Shivji Rai Foundation, New Delhi. Many spectators arrived to see this play conceived by famous theatre director Kumar Veer Bhushan and directed by Utpal Jha.

In this historical play, instead of fighting a war, emperor Ramgupta of the ancient Gupta dynasty sends his wife Dhruvaswamini to the camp of Shak Pradesh's king Shakraj to have a relationship with him. Dhruvaswamini goes to the camp with her husband's younger brother Yuvraj Chandragupta and together they kill Shakraj, save their identity, and become the queen of Shak Pradesh. Cowardly and cunning Ramgupta reaches Shak Pradesh also in greed for the kingdom but he is killed and Dhruvaswamini gets married to Chandragupta for the second time.

The voice of remarriage and respect for women was the center of the play. In the staging of the play, the acting of Dhruvaswamini - Runi Mishra was natural and effective. Ramgupta - Satendra Bagasi, Chandragupta - Satyam Kumar Jha, Mandakini - Sonam Verma, Shikhar Swami - Shahil Siddiqui, and Khadgadharani - Manju Dahal were very good with their characters.

Kumar Sachin in the role of villain Shakraj, Koma-Shavaswati Sahariya, and priest - Shivam Yadav acted with an understanding of the nuances of the characters. The audience liked Hijra Deepak Gupta, Hunchback Bhagyesh Kaushik, Pratihari Shiv Shambhu, Maid Meenu Rathi, Soldier Manisha Sharma, Khingal Shahan Ahmed, and Shak Samant Deepak Siddharth, Navneet Kumar very much.

Co-director Atul Dhingra, lighting concept of Utpal Jha, music of Deepak Chaurasia, makeup of Archana Kumari, set of Sujit Kumar and Shivam Jha, and stage management of Geetanjali Chopra played a big role in the success of the play.

The play was jointly inaugurated by writer Shahnawaz Ahmed Qadri, Kanchan Mehra Centre for Art's director Kanchan Mehra, writer Aarti Smit, Soul Sambandh's director Disha Mittal, Rizwan Raza. The artists were welcomed by Lok Bandhu Rajnarayan Ke Log Trust's Rizwan Raza, Soul Sambandh's director Disha Mittal, Fine Arts instructor Dilip Sharma, art critic Suman Kumar Singh, litterateur Pankaj Chaudhary.
