New Delhi: The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) has formally requested India's Union Health Minister, J.P. Nadda, and NITI Aayog officials to recognize family medicine as an official medical specialty in India. During the 18th Global Health Summit at AIIMS, Delhi, AAPI highlighted the need for broader healthcare services and disease prevention at the community level. AAPI President Dr. Satish Kattula emphasized the critical role of family medicine in ensuring comprehensive and accessible healthcare for all.

The delegation also addressed the alarming rise in cancer and heart attack cases, urging the government to prioritize preventive measures. Additionally, AAPI recommended stronger actions to protect doctors from increasing incidents of violence and suggested enhanced accessibility for cancer screening, treatment, and palliative care across India. The summit also saw workshops organized by AAPI, AIIMS, and the Global Association of Indian Medical (GAIMS) Students to train students in modern medical techniques. For the first time, three individuals were honored with the prestigious AAPI Fellowship Award.
