India-Israel Strategic Ties Reach New Heights: Jaishankar Pushes for FTA and Regional Stability in Jerusalem

Jerusalem: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar’s official visit to Jerusalem has marked a significant milestone in the evolving India-Israel strategic partnership. Following a high-profile visit to the UAE, Dr. Jaishankar held a series of critical meetings, most notably with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During their discussion, Jaishankar conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and explored avenues to deepen cooperation in technology, economy, connectivity, and security.

The diplomatic mission also included a meaningful dialogue with President Isaac Herzog, where both leaders reviewed the strategic roadmap and reaffirmed India’s commitment to regional peace. In a joint session with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, the conversation addressed global security challenges. Dr. Jaishankar expressed deep condolences regarding the recent terrorist attack on a Hanukkah celebration in Australia, underscoring the shared resolve of both nations to combat terrorism in all forms. The leaders also exchanged views on the Gaza peace plan and initiatives for sustainable regional stability.

Dr. Jaishankar highlighted that the bilateral relationship has matured significantly over the last decade across three vital dimensions: Government-to-Government (G2G), Business-to-Business (B2B), and People-to-People (P2P).

This multifaceted approach was further emphasized in a meeting with Economy and Industry Minister Nir Barkat. A key takeaway from this interaction was the shared optimism regarding the early conclusion of the India-Israel Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which is poised to catalyze investment and innovation. By focusing on futuristic sectors like talent mobility, skill development, and tech-innovation, Dr. Jaishankar’s visit reinforces India’s role as a steady partner in Israel’s economic and security landscape.
