Awareness Drive on Pre-Eclampsia Marks Global Day at Kanpur Hospital
Kanpur hospital raises awareness among pregnant women about early detection and management of pre-eclampsia on World Pre-eclampsia Day.

Kanpur: On the occasion of World Pre-eclampsia Day, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at a prominent Kanpur medical institute organized a comprehensive awareness program aimed at educating pregnant women about the timely recognition and management of pre-eclampsia—a potentially life-threatening condition.
The event was presided over by Dr. Renu Gupta, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, who addressed the attendees and emphasized the seriousness of pre-eclampsia. She explained that this condition, characterized by high blood pressure and proteinuria during pregnancy, can pose serious risks to both the mother and the unborn child if not diagnosed in time.
Dr. Gupta pointed out that pre-eclampsia and eclampsia contribute to 10–15% of maternal deaths in India, which is a deeply concerning figure. She stressed the importance of regular antenatal check-ups and early blood pressure monitoring as crucial steps in early diagnosis and effective treatment.
The program featured a detailed presentation covering the symptoms, statistical prevalence, risk factors, and preventive strategies related to pre-eclampsia. Attending doctors urged pregnant women to undergo routine antenatal screenings, which they described as life-saving measures. Medical professionals also responded to participants' queries during the interactive session.
Dr. Renu Gupta concluded by stating, “If pre-eclampsia is identified early, we can save many mothers and newborns from fatal outcomes. Awareness is the first step toward prevention.”
The event was well-attended by key medical faculty members, including Dr. Shelly Agrawal, Dr. Vandana Sharma, Dr. Seema Dwivedi, Dr. Karishma Sharma, Dr. Garima Gupta, Dr. Rashmi Yadav, and Dr. Suchita, among others. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort to raise awareness and improve maternal health outcomes through education and early intervention.
By marking World Pre-eclampsia Day with such impactful initiatives, Kanpur’s medical fraternity took a significant step towards addressing this silent yet dangerous pregnancy complication.
