Awareness Program at Mahamaya Medical College Tackles Student Stress and Depression

Ambedkar Nagar : In a vital move toward student welfare, the Mahamaya Government Allopathic Medical College in Saddarpur organized a comprehensive Mental Health and Wellbeing Awareness Program on Thursday. Conducted under the directives of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the initiative aimed to equip students with practical tools to combat depression, manage academic stress, and foster a positive mindset.

Addressing the gathering, renowned psychiatrist Dr. Amit Kumar Gupta highlighted the rising tide of negative thoughts and psychological pressure among today’s youth. "In this fast-paced era, constant alertness and open dialogue are essential to tackle mental stress," Dr. Gupta stated. He emphasized that timely guidance and transparent communication are the most effective shields against severe tendencies like self-harm and suicide.

Adding to the discussion, expert Dr. Parul Yadav urged students to shed the social stigma or hesitation associated with seeking psychiatric help. "Mental health is just as critical as physical health," she asserted, advising students to opt for professional counseling whenever they feel overwhelmed or emotionally burdened.

The program saw enthusiastic participation from the students of Sunderlal Rama Nursing College, Ambedkar Nagar. During the interactive session, students shared their personal experiences and posed questions regarding emotional management, which were answered in detail by the panel of experts.
