Govt Issues Stern Warning Against Joining Russian Army, Terms It 'Deadly and Dangerous'

New Delhi : Amid ongoing reports of Indian nationals joining the Russian armed forces, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a stern advisory cautioning citizens against taking such steps, categorizing the practice as a "deadly and dangerous path."

According to the official statement, the Indian government has repeatedly highlighted the severe risks and hazards involved over the past two years. Citizens seeking employment opportunities abroad have been urged to exercise extreme caution and refrain from falling for job offers presented by unverified recruitment agents or dubious non-governmental entities.

Addressing a growing concern, the Ministry noted that several individuals willingly seek recruitment into the Russian military anticipating financial benefits, assuming the Indian government will intervene and facilitate their exit if needed. The Ministry reiterated that such assumptions are misinformed and strongly discouraged any participation.

Furthermore, the MEA revealed instances where individuals either approached Indian authorities seeking to renounce their Indian citizenship to obtain Russian passports for military service, or took these steps independently lured by short-term monetary gains. The government emphasized that individuals must recognize the life-threatening risks associated with such decisions and strictly avoid undertaking these hazardous commitments.

The Ministry of External Affairs reaffirmed that the Government of India remains in continuous contact with Russian authorities to ensure the safety, well-being, and early discharge and return of all Indian nationals currently serving in the Russian military.
