External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar visited Ghana as part of his three-nation Africa tour, strengthening India-Ghana strategic ties and signing key MoUs to boost Global South cooperation.
Accra : External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar initiated his official three-nation African tour (October 6–10) with a high-profile visit to Accra, Ghana, where he was warmly received by his Ghanaian counterpart. The visit marks a significant stride in deepening South-South cooperation and elevating bilateral relations between India and Ghana.
During high-level delegation talks, both nations signed key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreements to establish a robust legal and institutional framework for enhanced commercial, academic, and technological exchanges. Notable agreements include a partnership between the Zoological Survey of India and the University of Ghana for scientific research, alongside a deal between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Ghana's CSIR-Crops Research Institute to boost agricultural education and development.
Dr. Jaishankar met with President John Dramani Mahama to review the momentum in India-Ghana strategic ties following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's historic visit last year. He also addressed diplomats at the Foreign Service Institute in Accra, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic engagement to manage global competition without sparking confrontation.
Highlighting capacity building as a central pillar of India-Ghana ties, the External Affairs Minister interacted with alumni of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program and met with members of the local Indian diaspora, reaffirming India's commitment to the African Union and ECOWAS.
