KGMU Debunks Direct Cash Transfer Rumors; Clarifies Digital ‘Virtual Money’ System for Incurable Patients

Lucknow :  Taking strict note of misleading media reports regarding the treatment funding for patients suffering from incurable diseases, the administration of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) issued a comprehensive clarification today. The administration explicitly denied rumors suggesting that financial aid would be transferred directly into the personal bank accounts of patients or their caretakers, terming such reports "factually flawed and highly misleading."

To eliminate confusion, KGMU management detailed the newly implemented, highly secure, transparent, and completely cashless digital ecosystem designed to streamline patient care.

How the 'Virtual Money' System Works
The university clarified that the new mechanism eliminates physical cash handling and bureaucratic delays through a structured digital process:

Treatment Estimation: Once a patient is registered under the incurable disease category, their attending chief physician creates a detailed estimate of the expected treatment costs.

  • UDIN Linking: Upon admission, an amount equivalent to the approved estimate is credited as 'Virtual Money' into a digital wallet linked directly to the patient's Unique Digital Identification Number (UDIN).
  • Hospital Control: This virtual balance remains within the secure internal accounting network of KGMU and is never converted into liquid cash for external use.

Absolute Transparency at Diagnostic Counters
The administration emphasized that patients and their families will not need to make out-of-pocket payments or run from pillar to post for approvals.

"As soon as the patient's UDIN is entered into the system at any KGMU pharmacy, pathology lab, or radiology counter, the available virtual balance will reflect instantly. The cost of medicines and diagnostic tests will be automatically deducted via digital adjustment, making the services completely free at the point of care," the official statement read.

Provision for Balance Extension
Addressing concerns about long-term treatments, KGMU assured the public that patients will not face distress if their allocated funds run out. If the medical expenses exceed the initial estimate due to prolonged hospitalization, the virtual money limit can be upgraded immediately based on a formal request and recommendation from the treating doctor.

KGMU administration has appealed to patients, attendants, and the general public not to fall prey to misinformation. The entire framework has been digitized specifically to rescue families from financial stress and the hassle of administrative paperwork during medical emergencies.
