Himachal Pradesh Sends First Historic Fruit Export Consignment To Royal Oman
Himachal Pradesh makes its global debut as the first premium consignment of fresh cherries and plums successfully reaches Oman retail markets.
Shimla : In a historic milestone for India’s Himalayan horticulture sector, Himachal Pradesh has successfully executed its first-ever international export consignment of fresh fruits to the Sultanate of Oman. The inaugural shipment, comprising 400 kilograms of premium sweet cherries and 400 kilograms of succulent plums, safely reached Omani shores, marking the state's official entry into the competitive global fruit market.
The high-value consignment was flagged off by state Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi. Upon its arrival in Muscat, the Embassy of India immediately launched a promotional campaign. The vibrant Himalayan fruits were showcased across major Middle Eastern retail outlets through specialized in-store displays, generating an immediate, enthusiastic response from Omani consumers praising the fruit's superior sweetness and texture.
This trade breakthrough was orchestrated under the directives of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who has prioritized global market access to elevate the rural economy. The multi-agency operation required seamless coordination between local farmers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), and the HPMC.
Together, they ensured strict adherence to international grading, packaging, and phytosanitary standards. Lauding the historic achievement, Chief Minister Sukhu stated that opening doors to high-value global markets would unlock unprecedented prosperity for regional orchardists.
He urged local growers to continue adopting scientific cultivation and meticulous grading practices to solidify Himachal’s emerging reputation as a trusted global supplier of pristine, premium produce. State officials remain highly confident that this successful Middle Eastern debut will pave the way for expansive future trade routes across the entire Gulf region.
