New Delhi . India is not only empowering its citizens on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), but has also emerged as a source of inspiration for other countries around the world. A glimpse of this was seen last week, when India hosted an international conference on DPI.
This was the first time that the Government of India, while hosting a major international forum like the United Nations, presented the country's progress in DPI to the world.
India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj on Sunday shared a post on the social media platform 'X' expressing happiness over hosting the conference. Celebrating India's leadership in the UN's first international conference on digital public infrastructure, he wrote. We are using DPI to advance the global SDGs and promote inclusivity.
Addressing the conference virtually, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said India has made it a policy objective to ensure that the benefits of the digital revolution reach every corner of the country's diverse society. This approach has led to the development of the ‘India Stack’, a bouquet of digital tools accessible to all.
During this he shared India's journey in harnessing the power of DPI to promote inclusive growth and prosperity. Vaishnaw told the UN that India is 'sharing its journey of empowering people through DPI in the hope that it will inspire other countries, learn from all and set their own digital priorities.
Apart from Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, India's G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant, President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis and Administrator of the United Nations Development Program Achim Steiner also participated in the conference.
During this, Kant delivered a keynote address on the topic 'Advancing the Digital Frontier using the Citizen Stack', through which he highlighted that India's DPI has revolutionized financial inclusion, governance and service delivery, Due to which 1.1% of GDP has been saved through digital reforms. At the same time, Francis stressed on expanding digital infrastructure through a tweet.
