Adani-Bangladesh Power Dispute: A Delicate Balancing Act
Adani Power and Bangladesh are locked in a power supply tussle, with the Indian conglomerate threatening to cut off electricity over unpaid dues.
New Delhi: The delicate balance of power supply between India and Bangladesh has been disrupted by a payment dispute involving Adani Power. The Indian energy giant has threatened to curtail electricity supply to Bangladesh due to outstanding payments amounting to $800 million. This development has raised concerns about potential power shortages in Bangladesh, which already faces intermittent power cuts.
In response to the looming crisis, Bangladesh has accelerated its payment schedule to Adani Power. Government officials have confirmed the issuance of a $170 million letter of credit to the Indian company. However, the future of the power supply remains uncertain, as Adani Power has set a strict deadline of November 7 for the clearance of outstanding dues.
