Lucknow : To mark International Biodiversity Day 2024, SUEZ India, in collaboration with the Noble Citizen Foundation, organized a vibrant public awareness program at the Tau Devi Lal Biodiversity Park in Lucknow. The event, themed "Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development", aimed to promote the importance of biodiversity and inspire eco-conscious behavior among citizens.

The event began with a powerful street play (nukkad natak) performed by volunteers, spotlighting the essential roles various species play in maintaining ecological balance. Through engaging performances, the artists conveyed a strong message—every element of nature matters, and collective efforts are needed to protect our planet. The play called on the public to adopt environmentally responsible habits in their daily lives.

A major highlight of the program was the Biodiversity Walk, which captured the curiosity and enthusiasm of school children. Students from a local government school participated in the walk, learning about diverse trees, plant species, and local fauna. The walk offered a real-time educational experience on why conserving biodiversity in rapidly urbanizing cities is more critical than ever.

Rashmi Ranjan Ray, CEO of SUEZ India, addressed the gathering and reflected on the deeper significance of the initiative. “This walk through Tau Devi Lal Park was not just symbolic but a heartfelt connection with nature. From observing local biodiversity to engaging the community, this day has brought our sustainability values to life,” he said.

Ray emphasized that for SUEZ India, biodiversity protection is an integral part of its broader mission that includes water and wastewater management. The company, operational in India since 1978, treats nearly 1 billion liters of wastewater daily, contributing significantly to environmental preservation.

On a global level, SUEZ treated 3 billion cubic meters of wastewater in 2024 alone and recovered 2.5 million tons of secondary raw materials. Under its 2023–2027 Sustainable Development Roadmap, SUEZ has prioritized biodiversity initiatives, including the development of natural habitats, plantation of native species, biodiversity audits, and public awareness campaigns.

The Lucknow event demonstrated how community engagement and youth involvement can create a lasting impact in fostering eco-awareness. Through educational walks and interactive performances, SUEZ India successfully transformed International Biodiversity Day into a celebration of nature and a call to action for sustainable living.
