Betel Nut In Lung: Fatal Habit Warning
Lucknow doctors save woman’s life after a betel nut stuck in her lung caused pneumonia.
LUCKNOW-In a rare medical case at Apollo Hospital Lucknow, doctors successfully removed a betel nut (supari) from a 70-year-old woman's lung. The patient suffered from chronic pneumonia and infections after accidentally inhaling the nut while sleeping with it in her mouth.
Led by pulmonologist Dr. Shubham Agarwal, the complex bronchoscopy procedure saved the patient’s life. Experts warn that sleeping with cloves or betel nuts is a dangerous habit that can lead to respiratory failure, lung abscesses, and silent life-threatening infections.
