Hair Loss Drug Minoxidil Risks Infant Health
Global study warns that maternal minoxidil use can cause abnormal hair growth in infants.
NEW DELHI-A recent global analysis by AIIMS New Delhi and the Ministry of Health has warned that maternal exposure to minoxidil, a popular hair loss drug, could trigger infantile hypertrichosis. This rare condition causes abnormal, excessive hair growth in infants.
Researchers analyzed over 2,600 cases, finding that nearly 22% of infant cases were linked to maternal drug use. The study also highlighted serious eye disorders associated with the drug, urging stricter regulations for over-the-counter hair treatments to protect children.
