Amit Shah Launches 'Bharat Taxi' to Revolutionize the Cooperative Sector

Lucknow : In a move that signals a paradigm shift for India’s gig economy, Union Minister for Home and Cooperation, Amit Shah, has officially launched ‘Bharat Taxi.’ More than just a ride-hailing app, this initiative marks the "renaissance" of a long-neglected cooperative sector, fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to breathe new life into collective enterprise.

Unlike traditional platforms governed by corporate giants, Bharat Taxi operates on the principle of "Sahkar se Samriddhi" (Prosperity through Cooperation). The core philosophy is simple yet radical: the government is not entering the taxi business; the cooperative sector is. This shift moves the center of power from boardroom executives to the drivers themselves.

Driver-Owners: In a world-first cooperative structure, the "Sarathi" (driver) is not just a service provider but a stakeholder and owner.

Transparency & Dignity: The platform aims to liberate drivers from the high commissions and opaque algorithms of private aggregators, ensuring that every kilometer driven translates directly into higher earnings and social security.

National Expansion: Under Shah’s guidance, the service is slated for a nationwide rollout within the next three years.

A standout feature of this initiative is its focus on gender inclusivity through the ‘Sarathi Didi’ program. By integrating women into the fleet, Bharat Taxi is creating a dual impact: providing women with a dignified, safe, and independent livelihood while enhancing the sense of security for female commuters.

By focusing on the person at the end of the line, Amit Shah has transformed a transport utility into a tool for socio-economic empowerment. As the wheels of Bharat Taxi begin to turn, they represent a move away from capital-driven markets toward a community-driven future where labor finally meets ownership.
