Lucknow. Keeping in view the unprecedented development of large-scale infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, CII organised a conference on roads and highways to discuss innovative techniques, prospects, opportunities and future technologies in road construction.

Speaking at the session, Technical Advisor to Public Works Minister and former Chief Engineer, U.P. - PWD, V.K. Singh mentioned that for Indian roads we need to move from traditional methods to new methods in terms of technology to ensure long-term maintenance of roads and while doing so take care of recycling of roads, environmental protection and cost and functionality.

Dharamvir Singh, Professor - Transportation Systems Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Bombay* said that India has made tremendous technological advancements in the road sector to compete and match the international standard of road construction. He said that there is still a need to improve road construction technology through research in the field of road construction. The sector can scale new heights.

CII UP State Council Chairperson Smt. Smita Agarwal highlighted the significant impact of Uttar Pradesh’s extensive expressway network on the economic development of the state. These expressways constructed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana have not only strengthened the road infrastructure of the state but have also played a vital role in the economic and social development of the country. They facilitate efficient movement of goods and passengers while improving access to markets, thereby contributing to overall development.

Addressing the participants, Manoj Gupta, Past President CII UP and Chairman & Managing Director, A.R. Thermosets Pvt. Ltd.* said that large-scale implementation of technologies like emulsion treated aggregates and microsurfacing has brought Uttar Pradesh to the forefront of road development. Many states are now looking at our success model and trying to adopt it. Our efforts have not only saved a lot to the state exchequer but have also contributed to carbon savings, making our roads more sustainable. The village roads constructed under PMGSY are a classic example of our achievements.
