Lucknow: On the occasion of Nutrition Month, an exhibition of millets was organized at Sahara Hospital last day, through which the benefits of millets were explained. The theme of the exhibition organized under the title “Millets: Eat Millets and Drive Away Diseases” was ‘Well-nourished India, Literate India, Strong India, Healthy balanced diet, immense energy to the body’.

Anil Vikram Singh, Senior Advisor, Sahara India Parivar, inaugurated the exhibition by cutting the ribbon. At the exhibition, Chief Dietitian Ms. Dharti Shah prepared the Gujarati dish 'Handwa' using jowar. Apart from this, senior dieticians Monalisa Banerjee, Aiman Waqar, Ankita Shukla, Manya Dubey, Sanchita Tripathi and intern Shivangi Mishra prepared cutlets, Jo Fara, Ragi Laddus from other types of coarse grains including jowar, millet, ragi, Kangni, Kodo and Sawan. Made Gulgula, Mathri and Halwa. The students of Nursing College made a sheaf of coarse grains in the shape of Rangoli, which became the center of attraction for the people.

Chief Dietician Dharti Shah said that coarse grains like jowar, millet and ragi are rich in protein, fiber, B vitamins, and minerals like iron. These grains are gluten-free superfoods, which can help control diabetes. He said that if you are not in the habit of eating coarse grains, then you can gradually include all types of coarse grains like ragi, jowar, and bazaar in your diet.
Jowar is such a coarse grain that it can be eaten comfortably throughout the year. It is rich in protein, iron, fiber and helps in keeping bad cholesterol away. Like ragi, millet is also a hot coarse grain and is mostly consumed in winter, but can be used as a beverage in summer also.
