New Delhi: How India and the United Kingdom can make their partnership more contemporary and productive. The present global scenario offers many opportunities to develop our relations. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met UK Secretary of State for Security Tom Tugendhat on Thursday and discussed ways to make the India-UK partnership more contemporary and productive.

The External Affairs Minister said on his Twitter handle: It was a pleasure meeting the UK Secretary of State this afternoon. He further said that the current global scenario offers many opportunities to develop the India-UK relationship. Earlier this year Indian High Commissioner to UK Vikram Doraiswami and UK Minister of State for Security Tom Tugendt discussed bilateral and comprehensive security cooperation between India and UK on 23 March.

India and Britain have good relations. Recently both countries signed the Young Professional Scheme where Vikram K Doraiswamy was also present. The UK supports India's bid for permanent membership of the UNSC and is also an important interlocutor for India in the EU, G8, G20, and global contexts. In addition, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Parliaments of India and Britain have traditionally had close relations.
