India sends second consignment of relief material to flood affected Kenya
New Delhi. India has sent the second tranche of humanitarian assistance, including 40 tonnes of medicines, medical supplies and other equipment, to help flood victims in Kenya. The Ministry of External Affairs gave this information in a statement on Tuesday.
Tents, blankets, power generation sets, basic sanitation facilities, hygiene kits, baby food, malaria and dengue diagnostic kits and anti-venom treatment materials have been sent by a special aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
Prior to this humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) consignment, Indian Naval ship INS Sumedha had arrived in Mombasa on 10 May to provide immediate relief, which included one HADR pallet and two medical pallets.
Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar wrote on social media platform 'X' that the second consignment of HADR material consisting of 40 tonnes of medicines, medical supplies and other equipment has left for Kenya to assist the flood victims. We stand for a historic partnership and are Vishwabandhu to the world.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, there has been a lot of loss of life and property due to the catastrophic floods in the African country. So far, around 267 people have lost their lives, 188 have been injured and more than 2.80 lakh people have been displaced. India expresses its deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Kenya for the loss and destruction caused by the floods.
The assistance to Kenya is a reaffirmation of our strong and friendly relations with the country, in line with the spirit of South-South cooperation and India's commitment to keep Africa at the top of our priorities as stated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
