New Delhi. After the announcement of the closure of work in India by the Embassy of Afghanistan in New Delhi, the discussion has intensified as to what will happen to the Afghan citizens and students living here. On this, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi clarified India's position.

Confirming the closure of the Afghan embassy in New Delhi, he said that the Indian government will continue to provide all kinds of assistance to Afghan citizens. Arindam Bagchi said that at the end of September, the Afghan Embassy in New Delhi announced the closure of operations, but we are supporting Afghan citizens in every way and will continue this in the future. He said that we know that a good number of people from Afghanistan live in India, including students. The Government of India is providing them with consular help and will continue to provide them in the future.

Let us tell you that the Afghan Embassy in Delhi had announced the closure of operations from October 1, allegedly claiming that it was not getting cooperation from the Indian Government. However, the ambassador and other diplomats of the embassy had left India and taken refuge in Europe and America even before this announcement. It is noteworthy that the embassy was already facing a shortage of staff.

The Taliban took over the rule in Afghanistan in a coup in 2021. India never supported the Taliban government and has been advocating the formation of a democratically elected government there. However, India had given permission to the Afghan Consulate to function. Meanwhile, the Afghan Embassy announced the closure of its operations in New Delhi from October 1. After this, the concern of Afghan citizens living in India started increasing. It is believed that after the assurance of the Foreign Ministry spokesperson of all kinds of cooperation, their worries will be reduced.
