Lucknow. The 100th Governing Body Meeting of SGPGIMS was organized at the Board Room of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow under the Chairmanship of Shri Durga Shanker Mishra, Chief Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh and President SGPGIMS.

The Institute was represented by the Director, Prof. R.K. Dhiman,  Col. Varun Bajpai, Registrar, Shri Biswajeet Rai, Finance Officer and other members of the Governing Body along with few Faculty members. Shri Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, Principal Secretary, Medical Education, along with representatives of the Finance Department was also present.

The Governing Body took major decisions of converting the existing “School of Telemedicine and Bioinformatics” into a fully fledged “Department of Telemedicine and Digital Health”. The Department of Telemedicine will provide outreach services to various super speciality Departments of SGPGIMS and will also facilitate data collection, analysis and informed decision making along with disease surveillance and monitoring.

The newly created Department was also sanctioned Eight Faculty positions four each from the IT and Digital Informatics field and the other four from Digital Health and Clinical fields. This Department will have a long way in providing high quality health services, consultations and monitoring services to each and every district of the state of Uttar Pradesh.

This will also strengthen outreach of various super-speciality Departments to various Medical Colleges of the state. The newly created Department of Telemedicine will run various courses in “Telemedicine and Digital Health” and would contribute immensely towards providing trained manpower in the realm of digital health.

The Governing Body also approved creation of new Renal Sciences Departments for paediatric patients and approved the Departments of Paediatric Urology and the Department of Paediatric Nephrology. The Governing Body also approved the Department of Orthopaedics which will start new courses including MD in Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine, Hand Surgery, Spinal Surgery, and Hip and Joint surgery.  

The Chief Secretary also approved the new integrated six years Super Specialty courses in Radiotherapy and Oncology, Paediatric Urology and Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgery and directed that due approval be taken from the National Medical Commission.

Prof. R.K. Dhiman also apprised the Governing Body about various recruitments carried out in the last two years. The Director highlighted that 91 Faculty positions out of the sanctioned faculty positions have been filled which will give a major boost in running OPD and IPD services in various super-speciality Departments. He also brought out recruitment carried out for various Group B and C posts where 1459 positions were filled.
