Ministry of External Affairs organised EAS Conference on Maritime Security Cooperation
Dhaka. The Ministry of External Affairs organised the 6th East Asia Summit (EAS) Conference on Maritime Security Cooperation in Mumbai last week, aimed at promoting cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
The conference was co-chaired by India, Australia and Indonesia and in collaboration with the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) and the National Maritime Foundation (NMF). Important issues were discussed during the event, including maritime domain awareness, capacity building and joint exercises between regional navies.
The EAS Conference on Maritime Security Cooperation is an important event organised by India as a commitment to strengthen the ASEAN-led EAS mechanism in collaboration with partners as well as support the implementation of the EAS Action Plan 2024-2028. During this, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs Jaideep Mazumdar delivered the keynote address, underlining the importance of dialogue and cooperation to promote peace, stability and economic prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, especially through maritime security cooperation.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote on 'X' The aim of the conference is to promote cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and support the implementation of the EAS Action Plan. Government officials and experts from think tanks and academia of the countries participating in the EAS are deliberating on six thematic sessions related to maritime security.
The participants deliberated on important issues related to efforts to secure the marine environment, including the Indo-Pacific Ocean Initiative (IPOI) and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), regional maritime domain awareness, countering illegal maritime activity, anti-piracy and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) and search and rescue (SAR), the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
